Position: Safety Director

Position Summary: The Safety Director will provide safety and health leadership and compliance oversight in support of company operations in the tristate area—Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Responsibilities will involve safety efforts regarding commercial truck and OTR equipment tire service and retreading.


• Monitor safety efforts of all employees and subcontractors

• Develop and execute a training program for newly hired employees

• Manage safety training program, including Tire Industry Association , “TIA” initial training and recertification

• Schedules, plans, and guides activities of company Safety Committee

• Enforce company safety rules and compliance regulations at company locations

• Provide guidance to location General Managers on facilities-related issues including workplace inspections

• Provide direction to employees on customer job sites in safe work practices

• Meet with high profile customers for safety consultations post-accident

• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses that occur on projects or on company work locations and prepare written report of findings

• Maintain, distribute, and demonstrate the use of all personal protective equipment

• Research and write monthly Tool Box Talks

• Work on company MSHA compliance initiative

• Inspect and maintain fire prevention equipment and first-aid supplies

• Maintain online compliance systems for high-profile customers: Browz, PICS, and ISNetworld

• Work with other company managers on safety initiatives: Operations, Human Resources, Supply Chain, etc.

• Represent the company in a professional manner with customers, compliance/regulatory officials, and senior management

• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree level of education or equivalent work experience with EHS degree preferred

• Automotive or previous tire industry experience required

• OSHA Certification—30 Hour Card

• Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA standards

• Certified First Aid / CPR Trainer – American Red Cross

• Good written and oral communication skills

• Ability to use judgment and experience to define, analyze, and resolve problems and issues

• Computer skills – MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

• Current TIA certification preferred.

• Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record

• The ability to operate machinery with moving parts

Minimum Physical Requirements

• Ability to work primarily indoors, but occasionally outdoors during all weather conditions

• Ability to lift/maneuver 100lbs - 150lbs on an occasional basis

• Ability to sit, stand and walk throughout the workday

• Ability to squat, bend, twist, push, pull and reach on an occasional basis

• Manuel dexterity needed to use hand tools

• Ability to tolerate fumes associated with auto service
